We are excited to announce the launch of “Woven with Elders,” a vaccination toolkit created for and by Pacific Islanders.
Our collaborative efforts were led by centering our cultural protocols and believing that our communities intuitively know what we need to heal ourselves.
Our free toolkit provides beautiful graphics, easy-to-read fact sheets, and responses to frequently asked questions regarding COVID-19 vaccinations in order to protect our Pacific Islander communities, especially our treasured elders.
Woven with Elders is specifically for community organizations that serve our Pacific Islander communities that have been devastated by COVID-19 with high rates of infection, hospitalization, and death.
Our communities are strong and have faced many pandemics in the past. Vaccinations are the best way to ensure our cultural knowledge, practices, and traditions that we have learned from our elders continue on to the next generations.
We encourage you to use and share our toolkit components that will be translated into various Micronesian, Polynesian, and Melanesian languages.
Woven with Elders was made possible thanks to a partnership with Kaiser Permanente and the collaborative dedication of the Pacific Islander Community Association of Washington (PICA), Papa Ola Lokahi, and the United Territories of Pacific Islanders Alliance Portland (UTOPIA PDX).
We have a suite of Pasifika languages released to come in line with the need that we all know too well, the lack of Pacific Islander language access in many of these toolkit resources.
