The Pasifika region has been under colonization for the past 500 years and its communities and nations have suffered globally from harms of land displacement, cultural and religious assimilation, imperialism and capitalism, intellectual and cultural theft, militaristic exploitation and many other systematic harms from European and Asian conquest. Systemic and institutional racism has plagued the Pasifika region and its indigenous people have and continue to resist these harms. We resist through centering our own healing as a vital act of resistance. When we choose to heal ourselves, this is inherently an act of liberation and love. PICA-WA is committed to healing justice. We look to Pasifika traditions of healing such as fostering loving connections to each other, to earth and ocean and to our internal selves so that we may build internal and social resilience.
